It’s That Time Again…Tips to Embrace Mercury Retrograde

Sunny-Dawn-Johnston-Its-That-Time-Again-Tips-to-Embrace-Mecury-Retrograde

Yup, it is that time again! By now, you have probably heard someone say … “Oh, It’s Mercury retrograde”.

Mercury Retrograde is about to begin and many people are beginning to “feel” the energy shifts … possibly without even knowing it … as it moves in. Now, I’m not an expert in Mercury Retrograde … nor am I an astrologer. I’m a psychic medium and someone who is sensitive to energy … just like you. I notice when the energy shifts … especially the strong shifts. As I tune into the energy (and look at the calendar) I usually discover that Mercury is retrograde … and I take a breath, look up how long it will be in retrograde … and then plan to move forward at a slower pace … knowing that it always has something to teach me. Not that I always love this … but, I can either hit my head against the wall, pushing and forcing OR go with the flow of Mercury in retrograde … and embrace it’s teachings. Which do you choose?

What is Mercury Retrograde?

Usually, three or sometimes four times a year, the planet Mercury appears to be moving backwards in the sky for a period of approximately 3 weeks. Technically, planets don’t actually move backwards … they don’t even slow down, but as Mercury passes the earth in its orbit … it appears to slow down, stop (station) and spin backward (retrograde). Of course, it really isn’t moving backward … it’s an optical illusion, since there is forward movement, like speeding by a slow-moving train — as it recedes, it appears to go backward. In astrology, Mercury rules communication, travel, and technology—so all of these areas can feel out of control during these three weeks.

One of My Favorite Healing Techniques-Processes

sunny-dawn-johnston-one-of-my-favorite-healing-techniques
Have you ever heard of the Write and Burn process? You may have heard of Julia Cameron’s “Morning Pages” ritual, that invites you to journal stream of consciousness thoughts for ten minutes each morning. It’s a great way to get the funk and the junk out of your subconscious so you are more capable of being creative, intentional and free. Write and Burn, is similar, but different. It invites you to get honest with the feelings that don’t feel good … so honest that you are willing to move them out of your head and heart and onto paper. It is an extremely powerful process that I have been doing for years. I find it so helpful that I suggest it to about 90% of my clients at one time or another.

Writing to heal is scientifically proven. I knew I always felt better after I had written in my journal, especially the painful yucky stuff, but I didn’t know there was “real” science that backed up what I felt. Not until I read an article about James W. Pennebaker, a psychology professor. He became deeply interested in the physical and mental benefits of what he called self-disclosure and created an experiment to test out his theory. He gathered a group of students who were asked to write about their own traumatic experiences for 20 minutes, on three consecutive days. Serving as a control group were an equal number of students asked to write about unimportant matters.

The results showed that there was a marked difference between the two groups in terms of the impact of the writing exercise. In those who had written of trivial matters, there was no change either in their physical or mental health. In contrast, those who had written about traumatic experiences and painful memories showed a marked strengthening of their immune system, decreased visits to the doctor and significant increases in psychological well-being. These findings were measured using physiological markers, behavioral markers and self-reporting. In another study in the 1990s of people with AIDS, those who wrote about their diagnosis and how it had affected their lives experienced a beneficial increase in white blood counts and a drop in their viral loads.

I found that fascinating … and it made sense as to why I always feel better after a writing and burning session. Writing and burning is not meant to take the place of regular daily journaling, gratitude lists or dreams and desires. It really is just for the YUCK stuff. I often refer to it as hate mail … that never gets sent … which is a VERY good thing. Writing and burning is for the pain and anger and resentment and jealousy. It’s for all those feelings of insecurity that hold you back in ways that you may just be discovering. It’s a safe time and place to write all your pain, your problems, your challenges and yes, even your hates. Once a day or once a week … whenever you have emotions that you want to release from your mind and body in a healthy way. It is so much better to write it out than yelling and screaming, stuffing the body with food and alcohol, letting the critical voice take over or simply ignoring and denying the feelings. Writing and Burning allow you a place to get honest with yourself and your pain. A place for you to allow yourself complete freedom to write whatever you want. No one else but you will ever see it, so you can swear and curse if you feel the need and write down everything that you feel about the person or the situation that is affecting you.

Wanna try it yourself? Take some time right now. Give it a shot … What do you have to lose?

Write & Burn Journal

Steps to Writing & Burning

1. Get yourself a journal (check out my latest creation) or just a plain notebook you feel comfortable tearing the pages out of. Find a quiet spot where you are free from distractions. Turn your cell phone off. Get away from your computer. This is your time to RELEASE AND HEAL.

2. You may want to begin with a statement,
intention or prayer asking to help you in clearing any negative emotions you have within your mind, body or spirit. Is there someone in your life (alive or deceased) that you have negative feelings toward? It could be an ex-lover, parent, spouse or colleague – anybody that conjures up negative feelings. Perhaps it is an experience that you need to let go of to move forward in your life. Whatever it is, bring it to mind as you make this statement of release.

Death, Dying and the Soul’s Transition

Death, Dying and the Soul’s Transition

Nikola Tesla states: “If you want to find the secrets of the Universe, think in terms of energy, frequency and vibration.”

We are souls/spirit having a human experience.  We are energy.  We are spirit embodied.  When we die, we drop the body … The spirit, the soul continues and lives on.  Energy can never be destroyed. It only changes forms.

“Death in the physical world is rebirth back in heaven” – SDJ

My goal with this blog is to help you consider a different perspective of death.  Not to stop the grief, but perhaps put a different perspective to it. So many people struggle with the death process and with a sense of loss – and understandably so.  This sense of loss can then hold them back from living life fully.  So many people feel guilt, pain, shame and the tragedy of loss … and this can block them from the light and the love of the soul connection.

Your Body Is a Freaking Miracle: Loving How It Works (Instead of JUST How It Looks)

Your Body Is a Freaking Miracle

You might’ve heard it said that your body is the most amazing thing you will ever own. Your body is a miracle, a wonderland, a brilliant machine. I’m sure you’ve heard all the catchphrases.

But let me ask you this: do you believe it? Have you ever taken to heart all of the ways that your body shows up for you without your having to lift a finger?

Think of all the things that your body can do. Your heart keeps beating right on cue. Your lungs keep breathing without needing reminders. Your cells keep regenerating themselves without your help. This means that you have an entirely new set of taste buds every ten days, new fingernails every 6-10 months, new bones every ten years, and even a new heart every 20 years.

It’s performing incredible feats of endurance and protection at every moment of every day. And it never takes a single moment off … that in itself is nothing short of astounding.

But so frequently, all we focus on is that our body is beginning to creak. It’s getting fat. It’s not fast enough, strong enough, or pretty enough to make us happy. We focus on scars and call them ugly. We see a number on the scale, and if we don’t like it, we blame our bodies.

Hardly seems fair, does it?

New Year, New You? How About A REVIVAL Instead?

New Year, New You?

That time of year is almost here. In a few short weeks, the world will be joining a gym, starting a diet, and setting mind-boggling self-improvement goals.

“This year I’m gonna lose 30 pounds and get in shape.” Or maybe something like, “This is the year I’m going to fit into those old jeans.”

Pretty soon we’ll be bombarded with advertisements to join everything from Gold’s Gym to Jenny Craig. And all those New Year’s Resolutions? The same old, same old plans to make this year THE year that you finally get the body you’ve always wanted?

Kind of exhausting, isn’t it?

Believing is Seeing

Believing is Seeing

Every November, I look forward to speaking at one of my favorite events, Celebrate Your Life. Year after year I have been so very blessed to be a speaker at this amazing conference and connect with people in such deep and humbling ways. It is always amazing and fulfilling. Always. This year, it was a little different. It was retreat style. Instead of being held in Phoenix, Arizona, where it usually is, it was held in Sedona, Arizona … which is one of my favorite places to visit. If you haven’t been there, it is a MUST… for sure!

So, a few of weeks ago, we were blessed again to be in Sedona, Arizona … the vortex capital of the US … amazing red rock as far as the eye can see. So many canyons and cliffs and valleys to explore on foot and mountain biking … although I prefer on foot. The contrast of the rich green trees among the red rock is breathtaking.

So, Kris (my amazing SOUL musician) and I, along with John Holland and Michael Beckwith had the honor of smudging the participants as they entered for the opening event that the AMAZING Denise Linn and Uqualla are hosting. We were so blessed to offer this clearing under the moonlight on the eve of the full moon. So many people with sadness in their heart but light in their eyes … coming to this event to be filled up, connected, and reminded of their value; others coming to receive support and guidance and community. Events like these are always so valuable to me, in so many ways. They fill ME UP just as much as they do the participants.

Are You Looking for the Presence?

Sunny-Dawn-Johnston-Signs-of-presence

The Holidays are coming! It is getting cooler outside, and we begin the time of year where we share gifts with those that we love … whether the gift be a present, or our presence, the Holidays are a time that we truly focus on love and joy. The Spirit world also likes to join in on the celebration by giving us gifts. They bring us so many gifts throughout the year that oftentimes we mistake them as coincidence, or we simply ignore them. For example, have you ever wondered if there is any spiritual symbolic significance to always finding ‘dimes’ or ‘pennies’ everywhere?

Finding change around … any kind of change, quarters, dimes, whatever … is a sign from the Spirit world. It is their way of letting us know that they are around. Just a simple “hello” or “I am with you”. Once you come to realize this, you will feel and know their presence more often in your daily lives. Many people have shared with me their stories about finding particular coins over and over again after the transition of a loved one or during a very challenging time in their lives. After recognizing the gift they had received, they felt blessed to know their loved ones were around. Some people have even found piles of change in strange places. Again, a beautiful reminder, a “present” from the Spirit world!

How Do You Learn to Love Yourself?

sunny-dawn-johnston-love-yourself

It is a question I am asked all of the time.

HOW?????

When I think back to how I began the process of learning to love myself, it was 10 steps. When I was 19 years old, I read a book called You Can Heal Your Life by Louise Hay. You know Louise Hay, right? She is one of the most incredible teachers of Self-Love there has ever been. She left this world on August 30th of this year, at the perfect age of 90. She truly was a teacher of absolute unconditional SELF-LOVE. I do the work I do because of this woman’s words, strung together in that amazing book, that I read back in 1990.

Does Everything Really Happen for a Reason?

sunnydawn-does_everything_happen_fora-_reason

When we are going through a difficult period in our lives, or are dealing with a crisis, it can feel like our lives are over. I’m sure that these last few months have felt very challenging for you, as they have for me, with the hurricanes, fires, earthquakes and, the most recent, the shooting in Vegas! During these challenging times, many well-meaning people will say things like “well, everything happens for a reason,” or “behind every gray cloud, there’s a silver lining.” Oftentimes, it is these types of statements that make us want to scream at the top of our lungs, “you just don’t understand, nothing will ever be the same” or “leave me alone … you have no idea.”

When we are in the midst of such periods, these age-old sayings can be difficult to hear, and even more difficult to believe. I get it. I have been the one to say it … and the one to scream … all at different times.

But, what if it were true? What if everything really does happen for a reason? What if we lived from a perspective that every experience that we have in life is designed to be an opportunity for growth, expansion, awareness, and dare it be said … for Love?

Most of us have, at some point in our lives, been lucky enough to have had some rough patches; but, experiences that, when looked back upon, can be seen with appreciation. Others have lived through downright catastrophes – where there seems to be no good reason whatsoever. Broken hearts, financial ruin, abuse or even the death of a loved one can leave us with more questions than answers. The why’s of it all, no doubt, cause pain, sadness, anger, illness and depression. We all see these challenges differently. For some, the pain is so devastating that they can’t get out of bed; while others can take what happened, and turn that energy into motivation. Why such different responses in similar circumstances?

How to Say No!!!! In a Loving Way :)

no

The late Steve Jobs once said: “Focus is about saying no.”

Over-committing to others often ends up with you supporting them and taking you away from your focus, pulling you away from what it is you truly desire. This is not good for anyone. It’s not good for your career, your relationships and most importantly, it’s not good for your SOUL. This is a people-pleaser’s disease that will cause stress, burnout, overwhelm and sometimes even more serious physical diseases.

It is time to look at why you always say yes. Is it out of obligation? Obligation stems from fear, not love. When you do something from a place of love, the energy is light, happy, joyful and intentional. So, if you are saying yes because you feel you should, you are only harming yourself … And oftentimes setting yourself up for expectation, not always intentionally, that they now owe you too. That might not be your intention, but it is often what happens.

It is time to say no to those things that you take on because you “should” and instead replace them with time spent on your desires and dreams … YOURS!! It’s time to learn to say no from a place of love. It can be done.

So, how do you say no?

The Clairs – Your Connection to the Spirit World

The-Clairs--Your-Connection-to-the-Spirit-World

When you are learning to tap into your intuition and the Spirit world around you, it is important to understand how the messages will show up. Spirit will send you a message, and your mind and body will begin to experience mental impressions: visions, sounds, feelings, thoughts, and even smells. These are collectively referred to as “the Clairs”:

clairvoyance,

clairaudience,

clairsentience,

claircognizance,

and clairfragrance.

You’re probably going to notice that your psychic information is delivered in one or two ways most often. To help you determine what your dominant Clairs are, let’s begin by explaining what they are and how they might show up in psychics or mediums, and of course your own life.

5 Ways to Stay Grounded and Connected Living this Thing We Call Life

I am a work in progress … always … and some days are better than others. How about you?

One thing I see a lot in my clients and students, and something I have struggled with in the past myself … is staying connected to spirit … being consistent with my spiritual practice. I have found that for myself, that it is an absolute necessity even though for many years I felt like it was a choice. It’s not, not for me anyway. I soon discovered … that for me …

Are Your Kids Moving Out? Growing Up?

Are Your Kids Moving Out? Growing Up?

For those of you that have kids heading to college or moving out … For those of you that have a sense of emptiness and sadness that your child is heading out on his/her own … leaving you to YOUR life. I share this little story from my life 9 years ago. I have recently repeated this experience with my baby … twice. He moved out into the dorms, then back in for a year … and most recently out again. I know that sadness you can feel … but man oh man, what a gift it is to release our children to their dreams, their lives and their creations. I say release very loosely … as if we have a choice. But we do … we can see it from a perspective of pain and loss vs. a place of gratitude and appreciation. – Enjoy it all my friend. – SDJ ♥

My 9 Step Process to Heal the Heart

My 9 Step Process to Heal the Heart

In healing my own heart, I’ve found that there’s an evolutionary process that occurs as I move from awareness to appreciation. I’ve broken this process down into nine steps so that you can recognize where you are currently and then see where you can move to. I will be using my own life experiences as examples of how you can use these steps to open up, ask for help from the Archangels, and allow healing into your heart. By witnessing my journey from beginning to end, it is my hope that you can take what fits for you, relate it to your own present or past circumstances, and reach a place where true healing is realized. This is my process of self-love and forgiveness.
