Take the Step You’re Sure You Can’t

guy8.8.21

How many times have you found yourself thinking you’d like to develop a new skill or sharpen an old one? Maybe you’ve wanted to learn another language or play a musical instrument; further your education; or just do some catch-up on those emails you’ve been putting off for a week

But in each, or at least most, of these instances, before you can even get started, you find yourself turned back—repelled from your upcoming chosen task by an onslaught of invisible forces! Suddenly, you’re surrounded by deep weariness, self-doubt, mental fog, or sometimes just plain fear.

Do you recognize any of these self-stalling inner-attackers? Would you like to be liberated from their limiting influences? Freed to pursue higher levels of your own inner development? That’s what this exercise is all about; teaching you how to take that next step each time you’re sure you can’t. Let’s begin by covering a few basics in higher, or esoteric, psychology.

How to Overcome and Even Celebrate, When the Twisties Come into Your Life

pollyW8.6

This blog is written for those of us that have ever felt misalignment between our heart, soul, mind and body. There are times in our life, usually just before a big shift of awareness, where life doesn’t flow as easily. Some part of our inner communication system is blocked. The pressure builds and builds, all of a sudden, we have the twisties, life balance is compromised. Keep reading and discover how to not only overcome, but also celebrate the twisties.

This week I asked people on Instagram what they would like to read about in my blog. My favorite answer was Simone Biles’ case of the twisties.

Honestly, I think we should have a National Simone Day. She just took the first step in normalizing self-care, and pausing when life feels out of control, or in other words when we have the twisties.

No Longer a Victim

Jmurphy8.7
Ever felt victimized by life’s tough breaks? I know I have. Seeing the successes other people are racking up while you continue to struggle with things that, theoretically, should be simple by now? It’s a bad feeling.

Unfortunately, there isn’t much you can do about unforeseen circumstances. Getting a flat tire on the way to the most important meeting or interview of your life. A medical problem blindsides you – and your bank account. You were picked over for the promotion that had your name written all over it.

Life can definitely throw you a curve ball and sometimes you don’t have nearly enough time to duck.

But you know what we can control? Our outlook. Not just our feelings on that one specific moment, but how we handle the stressors and setbacks. The first thing you need to come to terms with is this:

You are in control of your life: your journey, your emotions and your destiny.

Be at Peace with the Pain of Others

sunrise-over-the-clouds-picture-id595343542 Be at Peace with the Pain of Others

Can you stay open to the pain of others?

The Practice:
Be at peace with the pain of others.

Why?

Humans are an empathic, compassionate, and loving species, so it is natural to feel sad, worried, or fiery about the troubles and pain of other people. (And about those of cats and dogs and other animals, but I’ll focus on human beings here.)

Long ago, the Buddha spoke of the “first dart” of unavoidable physical pain. Given our hardwired nature as social beings, when those we care about are threatened or suffer, there is another kind of first dart: unavoidable emotional pain.

For example, if you heard about people who go to bed hungry – as a billion of us do each night – of course your heart would be moved. I’m usually a pretty calm guy, but when I visited Haiti, I was in a cold rage at the appalling conditions in which most people there lived. On a lesser scale but still real, a friend’s son has just started college and is calling home to tell his mom how lonely and miserable he feels; of course she’s worried and upset.

You Are Exactly Where You are Meant To Be. Trust Life

kute8.6

Just because you aren’t where you think you should be in your life doesn’t mean you’re not exactly where you are meant to be.

Sometimes we get caught up in the idea that we need to achieve certain things by a certain time of our lives. When we don’t it’s easy to feel like a failure or beat yourself up for not being where you expected.

Perhaps you wanted to:

– Be a millionaire by 35.

– Be a New York Times Bestselling author, selling millions of books.

– Win an Oscar.

– Marry your soulmate and have 2 kids by 40.

– Own your dream house.

We all have our own ideas and expectations.

8 Signs You Are an Empath and What to Do

amanda8.4

Being the one people always turn to is a blessing, but take steps to protect yourself

Do sad movies make you really sad? Do you pick up on the emotions of people around you? Do you often take things to heart, and seem to feel things more deeply than others? If you answer yes, chances are you are an empath.

Empaths are those who easily absorb the emotions of people and situations around them. They tend to get caught up in these feelings and may even have trouble distinguishing their emotions from those of others.

Being an empath can be exhausting because you are always picking up on what others feel, whether it is positive or negative emotions. Because you are probably a “great listener” and empathize well, people feel free to tell you about their troubles and feelings. This may trigger strong feelings of your own, or put you in the uncomfortable position of being caught between friends in disagreements when they both come to you.

Hundreds of artists sharing what

they’ve been driven to create. No one

knows why, but here it is: in pots that

the summer breeze twisting through

The End of Feeling Lame, And The Beginning of Endless Progress

TKieves8.3.21

I don’t know about you but I’ve often felt like I must be doing it wrong—missing the secret ingredient to life. But that’s so over now. I’ve seen through the veil. I’m rocking out to a new hymn. It’s a shift in focus I’m going to share with you:

Screw “doing it wrong.” I’m doing things. I’m making wacky, inevitable progress.

I’ve put wobble girl in the closet. I’ve muzzled Ms. Perfection who would like to ask a few more questions throughout the next decade, get it right, before ever getting it wrong.  But I’m showing up to the party now.  I’m wearing a tiara or a tent, but I’m going forward. I didn’t get the memo. I may never get the memo. Maybe I haven’t life-hacked a thing. Maybe I don’t even really know what life-hacking means.

I've Been Thinking...

Happy August!

Can you believe that it’s August already?! Wow, wow, wow. Or as a friend used to say, damn, damn, damn!

Also, August 1 was National Sisters Day, so I want to begin by honoring all the sisters out there. I have four wonderful brothers, but no sisters, and it’s something I always wanted growing up. To me, sisters always seemed to have a built-in best friend. I know that’s a simplistic view, but nonetheless that’s how I felt. That’s why I was so glad when I had two daughters. I was happy they would have each other to navigate the twists and turns of life.

I know there were many times along the way, especially when they were younger, when neither of them liked having a sister so close in age. But today, thank God, my girls are super close. They are each other’s best friend. It doesn’t mean that they see eye-to-eye on everything and everyone (and I’ve learned along the way to not get in between them), but they are committed to each other. They are protective of each other and they are there for each other in good times and tough times. So in honor of National Sisters Day, I asked them to answer some questions about their journey through sisterhood. If you have a sister, I hope their journey might help inspire yours!

My 101 Personal Goals in Life

canfield7.29
If you are bored with life, if you don’t get up every morning with a burning desire to do things – you don’t have enough goals. –Lou Holtz

I’ve studied the science of success for over four decades now – and if there’s one thing I know for sure to be true, it’s this:

The only way to attain a high level of success in life is to set personal goals for yourself and refuse to let anything stop you from achieving them.

… Sounds simple, right?

Yet so few people seem to be able to pull it off.

Most people in life don’t bother to set personal goals for themselves. They’re too busy reacting to daily chaos and won’t open their eyes toward the horizon to plan for a future.

Even if they do look ahead and set future goals for themselves, they lack the focus and motivation required to achieve their aspirations in life and give up when the first challenging obstacle appears on their path.

Or they set personal goals that don’t take them in the direction of the life they want to live. Their personal goals list reflects what they think they should want to achieve in life, rather than what they actually want to experience.

I don’t want that to happen to you. That’s why today I’m going to teach you how to set personal goals that are guaranteed to lead you in the direction of your dreams.

You’ll also learn how to identify future goals for different areas of your life so that you’re able to experience more balance, harmony, and greater fulfillment in everything you do!

Sacred Warrior: LIFE’S ASSIGNMENT—HAPPINESS

templeH8.1.jpg
French philosopher Pierre Teilhard de Chardin believed we are not human beings having a spiritual experience.

We are spiritual beings having a human experience.

I would like to add the more spiritual you become in your awareness, the more you are connected to your humanity. You embrace at a deep level the value of ‘all of you.’ The thoughts, the feelings, the joy, and the depth. You become totally comfortable with your-self. It is essential as a Difference Maker to be comfortable with yourself.

Life is an ongoing destination of learning, yet there is an arrival place — it’s called happiness. With happiness you draw from the core of your being, which is produced and renewed from ‘something’ much greater than who you are. Even though your life may take many twists and turns, the inner happiness you experience is always a non-negotiable.

Universal Human

zu7.30

Loving parts of a personality are naturally generous, kind, and connected. When you align yourself with yours, you become generous, kind, and connected, too. This is the creation of authentic power.

I was thrilled when Linda and I were invited to a gathering in India. I was even more thrilled to be asked to give a talk at the Gandhi ashram. Gandhi is one of my heroes. I spoke about authentic power and, for the first time, I spoke of the Universal Human, which I have been writing a book about for thirty years. Gandhi’s ashram seemed the perfect place to introduce the Universal Human because I think of Gandhi as a Universal Human when few existed.

THINK Beyond Your Genes - July 2021

Spacetravel

Hello Dear Friends, Cultural Creatives & Seekers Everywhere,

The video in this article is a rerun from a previous article. Why play it again? The message is even more relevant today.

Joy Ride?

Over the past several weeks, the public was offered a momentary break from the never-ending onslaught of news of a world in chaos and upheaval. Global attention was temporarily focused on the exploits of gazillionaires Jeff Besos, Richard Branson, and Elon Musk. Each of these individuals, representatives of the top 1% of the top 1% of the world’s wealthy, have invested their riches in creating their own space-flight companies. To demonstrate for the public their trust in their own efforts, Besos and Branson strapped themselves into rockets and blasted-off into space.

And my breakdown into peace

Life Is Hard, Give Yourself a Break

ariell7.27

For many of us, the fifteen months of lockdown and restricted activities were extremely challenging in every area of life. As life began to open up again in recent months, we experienced hope and optimism that normalcy was on the return.

Most of us started getting out more, giddy to be social and hug our friends and loved ones that we haven’t seen beyond a Zoom screen for so long.

And some of us have even jumped on a plane and done some traveling.

Plans that couldn’t be made previously (whether career or personal) are popping up and you may be feeling like it’s time to dive back in, make a new list of goals and accomplishments, restart your life and go for it.

Except your previous “get up and go” is now stalling, procrastinating, overthinking, worrying or all of the above.

Are You Committed To Living The Life Of Your Dreams?!

creid_7.25

Who do you need to become in order to have the life you’ve always dreamed of?

Making the life of your dreams a reality will require your commitment. It will ask you to claim that life and the version of you who lives it in advance – before you see the evidence with your eyes. It will require you to consistently invest in yourself and your transformation.

This isn’t about becoming something you aren’t or living a life that wasn’t meant for you. Instead, it’s about becoming the person you were always meant to be and claiming the life that’s been waiting for you.

Dig deep. But dig with a spoon, not a shovel.

I've Been Thinking...

“OMG, your past is speaking to you. What a validation of your truth!”

That’s what my friend Nadine said after reading my column in The Sunday Paper last week. In it, I wrote about the concept of leaving and about my parting words with Winnie, a woman who cared for my brothers as we were growing up.

"You knew your truth all along,” Nadine continued. “You knew what it was, and yet you didn’t believe yourself. You sought outside validation. Perhaps now you will trust yourself!”

Consciousness: Ten Questions, One Answer

deepak7.25

After decades spent ignoring the whole issue of consciousness, recent years have seen a boom, or at least a boomlet, of scientific interest. So it wasn’t entirely a breakthrough when the July 10 issue of the popular weekly New Scientist devoted its cover article to consciousness, posing “the ten biggest questions about the greatest mystery in the universe.”

The headline is meant to be provocative, but the vast majority of scientists won’t be interested in consciousness, and their indifference can be simply explained. When conducting an experiment in the laboratory, the air in the room is irrelevant (unless you are experimenting on air). Likewise, consciousness is just as irrelevant. Like air, it is necessary, but it is beside the point. Air and consciousness are just a given.

Ironically, this dismissal actually holds the answer to all ten questions posed by the New Scientist article.  First let me relate the ten question, which don’t have to be considered in detail, since one answer applies to all ten.

Rise Above All Runaway Reactions

guyblog7.26

As events occur in our lives, it seems we always know exactly what they mean for us. Then immediately we rush into what feels like the appropriate emotional reaction. That reaction further influences the way we view the event, and in this way our initial response is “confirmed.” We rarely question either our view of events or our response to them.

As we are carried away unconsciously from one automatic reaction to another, these conditioned responses grow more entrenched. And with each repetition, they feel more and more natural to us.The likelihood that we will ever question them diminishes. Our behavior grows more settled into these mechanical responses and the way we view events becomes increasingly rigid. As a result, we are taken further away from the spontaneous lives we were meant to enjoy.

But it’s not necessary to continue being defeated by our own mechanical responses. We can learn to recognize these “dark horse reactions” eager to take us on a bad ride, before we are carried away by them.

Sacred Warrior: ENERGY IS KEY

templeH7.24
Change your energy and your life will change. It’s a simple truth

The easiest way to measure your beliefs in the power of this truth is to notice if you are feeling disconnected or drained rather than energized or impassioned about your life.

The flow of life cannot reach you if you are blocked with layers and layers of protection.Or if your attitude is of a fixed position. Or if you are unwilling to start waking up so new energy can flow through you.

As long as you believe you are the producer of your own energy, you will often be tired and weary and feel there is never enough. You do, of course, play a significant role in creating and maintaining your own energy by getting proper rest and nutrition. However, you are not the producer of your own vibrant energy any more than you had to think about breathing today before you took your first breath.
