Why Am I Here?

Why Am I Here?

You may ask yourself this from time to time. Not just in reference to a particular place but also here on Earth, in this life. The answer to both is the same: Love. You are here to love—every person, event, experience, and complicated nuance in your life. Why? Because love is who you are at your core; you were born out of love, human and divine, and to express it is part of the human and planetary design. It is as natural as breathing, and as essential to life. Love is woven into the fabric of everything, and it is renewed and enlivened by our expressing it on a daily basis. Without that living manifestation of our core essence, we and the planet would shrivel and die.

Sometimes the path of purpose can be hidden, seemingly impossible to find, but it’s really quite simple. We aren’t here to make lots of money or a name for ourselves, to accumulate possessions or stocks and bonds. Those are distractions, side events that eventually we see through and move on from. The human course is not necessarily self-evident, but gradually our life experiences awaken us to who we really are at the soul level. We finally see the truth that George Bailey did in the classic film It’s a Wonderful Life: No one is a failure who has friends, and kindness and generosity made him the “richest man in town.” Without his presence, no one else in his life would have fully lived who they came here to be. Same with each of us. You affect many more people than you know.

Is There a Better Way to Be Happy?

somwhere-picture

History is filled with powerful forces that change the face of the Earth, and right now we are experiencing one, an explosion of a new coronavirus that has upended daily life. Forecasts of a changing world are in the air once the pandemic is over, but no one really knows what the reset will be, if there is going to be one.

I think the best reset would be over happiness. There is an unquenchable drive for humans to seek happiness, but this means very different things at different times. A day laborer hauling stone to build a cathedral in the Middle Ages was happy, even inspired, by backbreaking physical work that never changed and ended with the breakdown of the body.

That way of being happy is unimaginable to modern people. In developed societies, our formula for happiness generally involves the following: physical comfort, ample leisure, scientific medicine, higher education, endless distractions through entertainment and social media, and a steady supply of consumer goods. In the developing world these values are dominant, not as what people already have but what they aspire to have.

An Interconnected Tapestry

interconnectd You have the capacity within yourself to transform every single area of your life.

There are some days when you wake up and you begin to wonder what on earth is going on. That someday has been the last 200 plus days. If you have not at some point over the past six months woken up and consciously asked yourself what is going on, then you have been fundamentally checked out completely for one of the most unprecedented times in human history.

We are at a tipping point. We have to begin to unwind from every survival based energy we are holding on to. As long as humanity continues to be burdened by fear, guilt, shame or grief, we’re going to continue to need to have experiences in our lives that are based in survival. Our holding on to the energies of survival creates scenarios and situations that we have to survive through. At some point we have to get the interconnected, intertwined, interdependent nature of reality and we also have to be accountable and responsible for what we feel inside of ourselves.

Creating a Legacy of Peace

give-the-world-your-peace-picture-id1171021471 Creating a Legacy of Peace

Just when it looked like life might hold some semblance of normalcy, news of murder and powerful protests are being flashed around. Anger and grief have given us an opportunity to reconsider our life choices. We could say this is a time like no other, but that is not completely true. We have been living with pandemics, racism, sexism, wars, and other assaults to our wellness. What is different this time around?

Earth is at a perfect angle or a tipping point that allows light to reach our deepest wounds.  Most of us have had a devastating awareness of our world’s pain. Trauma from all the past years is being relived. Our heartbreak is real.

In the past several years, we have witnessed a growing number of voices calling our attention to the causalities of indifference, fear, and ignorance. We have groups that speak out for the rights of animals. Others stand up against racism and sexism. People have been stepping up and taking action for the collective all over the world. At the same time, we have groups desperately holding onto a world that lives in a state of crisis. They want to control the water, breath, and lives of others. This has created a knot of tension and anger on earth. Outrage and violence have reached capacity.

We are being guided to dismantle the untruths and free ourselves from the affliction of fearful thoughts. Our lesson is to learn; compassion has no boundaries.

Are We Listening?

amy-rollo-651804-unsplash_orig Are We Listening?
One of the greatest gifts we can offer each other is our true attention. A spell of inspiration and confidence is cast, when everything else is put aside. The message is sent. I care about you.

Really listening is taking the time to hear; without trying to control or fix what is going on in the speaker’s life. It is the act of being present. This is one of the most powerful things we can do, and it’s free.

What happens to relationships when people are not being heard? Partners, family and friends often begin to drift away. Sharing your presence with another deepens the trust and the invisible connection of love.

Are you listening to the loved ones in your life? Are you picking up the messages they are trying to share? All of us have fallen short at one time or another, in being present. Here is a little quiz to see how you are doing.

A Message From Our Ancestors

john-perkins-a-message-from-our-ancestors

Visiting ancient sites of the Aboriginal people here in Australia, I am struck by both their deep connection with nature and their fascination with the mysteries of the universe. The cave drawings and glyphs carved into stone cliffs that I have seen tell stories similar to those still told today by my indigenous friends, the Shuar and Achuar of the Amazon, the Kogi of Colombia, and the Maya of Central America.

Throughout the world, we see that ancient peoples had a deep fascination with Orion, Pleiades, and ideas around mysterious visitations from other planets. We also see that they enjoyed rich traditions centered on the spiritual and healing powers of animals and plants.
