At Times Like These---Do Not Get Discouraged

stayingpostitive

It’s time.  Please stop hiding your love under a bushel or a credit card statement. Do not apologize for believing in greater things—for yourself and for the state of our planet. It’s time to stop treating your quest for self-realization like a crumb of lint on your jacket, brushing your truth away.  I am asking you to stop listening to the noise of the media or your relatives. What does your heart whisper? What does this uncanny prophet know?

Here’s what I know: You’ve been chosen, marked, assigned. We all have. We are here to discover our light, a capacity within us that turns every “problem” into a portal of freedom.

What To Do When You Feel Lost

lost

We all have moments when we feel lost and unsure of what is going on, where we are going or what to do next.

What if in your greatest darkness when you felt lost, you were actually much closer to where you needed to be?

It’s scary to sit in the unknown. It’s often easier to go back to the familiar comforts of your old life. But this only leads to more of the same.

It’s easy to stay stuck in fear, and lose faith in such moments of feeling lost. But to act from fear only creates more drama and things to be afraid of.

Rather than act from fear and desperation, simply ….

Be still.

When you don’t know what to do…

Is It Possible to Choose Happiness?

choose_happiness What You Need to Know to Be Happy According to These 5 Spiritual Principles

Every one of us wants to be happy, and not just for brief, fleeting moments but deeply happy throughout the course of our entire life.

But sometimes, when faced with certain circumstances, situations or conditions, it can be difficult to feel happy!

I’m often asked if it’s true that we can choose to be happy, and if it’s possible to maintain a state of true happiness for longer than a few moments at a time.

Well, spiritual leaders have been asked these questions for centuries.

The following are five spiritual truths about happiness for you to contemplate and begin applying to your life so that you can experience greater happiness and fulfillment long term.

Yes, you have the ability to choose happiness, no matter your circumstance, situation or condition

choose-happiness-buddha-quote

“Happiness does not depend on what you have or who you are. It solely relies on what you think.”

–Buddha

One of the biggest “secrets” to creating a happier and more fulfilling life is knowing that happiness is always a choice.

In other words, you can’t always control what happens to you in life, but you do always have the power to choose how you’re going to react to what’s happening in the world around you.

Does this mean you have to feel good about everything and everyone at all times?

You are a Difference Maker: The World Needs You

butterfly-in-water-picture-id157315385
You are a Difference Maker. You dare. You dream. You DO. You are unique in a world where people too often stop at dreaming or never dare to dream at all.

Difference Makers are alive with passion. We see dreams as visions — a sacred spiral, a chrysalis, a circular path to growing. It’s the metamorphosis of soul, an evolutionary process in the cycle of becoming who we are meant to be. The more our dreams align with nature and the natural flow of life, the more authentic we become. It’s how we transform ourselves and discover our true purpose.

This is the butterfly effect. Something as small as the flutter of one butterfly’s wing can ultimately cause a tsunami of good around the world.

How do we continue to bolster and reaffirm the peace in our lives?

Peace is our natural state of being. First of all, you have to remember who you are and remembering who you are means, remembering how you feel as peace, because this is who you are in this beautiful presence. And this presence is experienced as peace in every moment.

That’s why it’s important to live in breath. Awareness is quite honestly the only practice you’ll ever need because the more you abide in the breath and more you witness each inhalation and exhalation, the more you are remembering the peace that is your natural state of being.

End the Rush to Nowhere

rushed

When we rush, we are not at peace. We don't see the world as it is; we only see whatever it is that doesn’t line up with what we have determined is “the way things ought to be.” Instead of being an inwardly centered person, our full attention is outwardly directed.

Such an anxious state could not exist without our false belief that who we are, our well-being, is connected to something happening exterior to ourselves. This mistaken idea is driving us, compelling us to get the situation resolved, the person fixed right now, because then we will be back in a peaceful place.

If we are truthful about our life experience though, it is obvious that as long as we believe we have something to lose because of our identification with any temporary exterior condition or circumstance, we remain subject to every outer condition.

How To Be Secure Instead Of Vulnerable

secure

In these difficult times the issue of vulnerability needs to be addressed directly, because so many people feel powerless and anxious, and the social trends that undermine personal power only seem to grow stronger.  It’s crucial to find a way to secure in your day-to-day life.

Let’s clarify what being secure isn’t. It isn’t achieving a confident self-image and suppressing what you feel inside.  Also, security isn’t something that can be created through externals like money, status, possessions, or any other material surrogate. There are countless people sitting in the lap of luxury who feel even more insecure than the average person. Overcoming vulnerability happens “in here,” where you relate to yourself.

Now we can address the five things that actually do create security as a personal quality in everyday life.

If a Mountain Is a Deity . . .

mountain-diety

Now that I’d been vaccinated, I was back at my favorite bar. With disinterest, I glanced up at the game that was playing on the large TV suspended above the bar’s mirror. Through the long mirror I saw that there were a few people scattered around at the tables, but the bar was empty.

My phone buzzed. I looked down at the message that had just arrived. It was a quotation from David Suzuki, the Canadian scientist, television commentator, and author who’s famous for his skills at helping audiences understand scientific and environmental issues.

"The way we see the world shapes the way we treat it. If a mountain is a deity, not a pile of ore; if a river is one of the veins of the land, not potential irrigation water; if a forest is a sacred grove, not timber; if other species are biological kin, not resources. . . we will treat each other with greater respect. Thus, is the challenge, to look at the world from a different perspective."

I glanced back up, meeting my gaze in the mirror. The image that stared back at me raised his mug. “Here’s to looking at the world with new eyes, new perceptions.” He smiled. It was my oldest friend— Juan.

volunteering Try These Ideas to Stay in Touch With Those You Love and Care About Through the Pandemic & Beyond

Social distancing and travel restrictions over the past year have left many people feeling isolated and lonely. One recent survey found 67% of Americans have felt more alone than ever before since the pandemic began.

People have also been coping with increased stress, sadness, worry, and uncertainty. They’ve lost loved ones and jobs to COVID-19, struggled to care for children forced to study from home, and lived in a constant state of vigilance trying to keep themselves and their families well. Almost 4 in 10 Americans say worry and stress in the pandemic has harmed their mental health.

We all hope the pandemic will be over soon, bringing an easing of restrictions and a return to a more normal life. Yet for many people, it may be some time before they’re able to connect with loved ones in the same way they did before.

Fortunately, there are many ways to connect deeply with the people we care about and stay in touch until the time when we can see them in person again. Here are some ideas to try that can help you feel connected and in touch with those you love:

Let the Light of Awareness Transform You

beautiful-butterfly-picture

There are parts of our psychic system that reject the shocks -- the lessons needed for our evolution because they imagine they’re already flying above the world of troubles. It is this mistaken sense of self that stands between us and true self-transformation.

Nothing that resists life can hope to learn from it.

Until we can embrace the lessons that ride into our lives on the back of events, we walk through an isolated world of our own making. Confined and defined by the content of our own thoughts, we are cut off from reality. And, as long as we remain so, there is no hope of realizing our relationship with that limitless Light from out of whose life pours the lessons intended for our transformation.

So, this much is clear: something within us is acting against our best interests. But what would do this, and why? The following insight helps us to see why our lower consciousness —our false self—resists the lessons we need in order to be born anew:

Real learning requires surrender.

Remain Vigilant for Love and Life with Divine Guideposts

springbirds

Most of the people in our Humanity’s Team community would probably say that they’re very familiar with practices of gratitude and appreciation and that a commitment to these practices is foundational to their conscious journey. I would say it’s true for me.

And as I’m guessing it is the same for you, I wake up in gratitude every morning. I bring that deep sense of gladness into the day, intentionally tapping into the feelings of awe, wonder, and appreciation.

I notice the glorious sunlight shining upon the spiderweb just below the gutter when I let Sadie out for a quick run around the house. I hear the melodic sounds of birds singing in the neighborhood trees and bushes as I sip on my coffee.

I feel the connection with all of life. It is my communion with the Divine.

The Miraculous Power of the Subconscious Mind

powerofmind
Time and again I write on the subject of stress and of the healing miraculous power of the subconscious mind. We all have questions about life and it's purpose,  specially during these trying times when life seems so futile. There are great fundamental truths of the mind which need to be explored, explained and accepted.

The subconscious mind is the Miracle worker and learning to accept it's power is the most important lesson we can learn in our lives. It can cure you of your sickness, make you strong, open the prison door of fear and give you entry into a glorious life.

TRUST THE POWER
In times when your inner strength seems to need rejuvenating along with the world around you,  you need to realize that it is your inner strength that is actually guiding your life. Learning to trust the inner power is what keeps our lives in adequate balance.

PRAY EFFECTIVELY
We need to do what some people would call scientific prayers. This is to tap the infinite power within you. Harmonious interaction of conscious and subconscious mind is essential.

USE HIDDEN INSPIRATION FROM WITHIN
There is a fountain of wisdom from within,  this is what keeps inspiration levels going. Life treats us in many ways, and mostly we will only remember the times we feel injured, through life's many lessons.

Step Into Your Power

“Be strong, be fearless, be beautiful. And believe that anything is possible when you have the right people there to support you.”
 —Misty Copeland

I've Been Thinking...

As this past week came to an end, I found myself thinking a lot about Liz Cheney. I found myself thinking about her brave stand and the fear it generated within her party. I also thought about what it takes to make a stand in one’s life and the consequences that inevitably result from such a bold move.

Much was made on the news about the Congresswoman being stripped of her leadership position and her power in Washington D.C. and within her own party. But that’s not what I saw. In fact, I saw the opposite story unfold.

I saw a woman step into her power and step into her leadership. I saw a woman speak her mind. And when she was told that the party was going to come after her in her own state, she said bring it on. There is a lesson here for all of us.

When you take a stand against the so-called powers that be—at work or at home—well, they aren’t going to like it at all. There is going to be pushback. There is going to be pressure. There is going to be intimidation.

What Is Enough?

enough
“To bring about change, you must not be afraid to take the first step.
We will fail when we fail to try.”
 —Rosa Parks

I've Been Thinking...

I’ve found myself thinking quite a bit lately about the idea of “enough.” What is enough? When do you know you’ve had enough? When do you finally feel that you are enough? When is enough enough?

I’ve thought to myself, have we as a country finally seen enough gun violence to actually do something about it, or does more have to happen? Have we seen enough about mental health to declare it a national emergency? What about climate change? Have we experienced enough racism, sexism, and ageism to say we’ve had enough, or do we need to experience more for things to finally change?

Is a man seen kneeling on another man's neck for nine minutes and 29 seconds enough to enrage you and push you to want deep, systemic change? Is it enough to push you to become active and fight for that change in our society and in our world? If so, will you now vote differently? Talk differently? Spend your money differently? See the world through different eyes? How will your actions signal that you’ve had enough?

Choosing A Better Path In Life

choosingpath

The word “path” has been adopted by people who are on an inner spiritual journey, but it has much wider implications. Everyone is on a path, even if they don’t always realize it.

There are two basic paths we take through life: thinking and feeling. To think your way through life appeals to rationalists, but they are fooling themselves. Feeling is always a part of every experience, every decision, and every life choice. Here are some examples of how the mixture of thought and feeling operates, often to our confusions.

  • Think of a food you hate (an American President made headlines by hating broccoli). See yourself putting a bite of this food in your mouth. It could be snails, a raw oyster, or boiled cabbage. Try to taste it as if you loved it instead. You can’t, because the taste is cemented with your feeling about it.
  • Put yourself in the place of a homeless person living with small children on the street. Visualize the situation; no doubt you’ve observed something similar in real life. Imagine that a stranger walks up to you and hands you $1,000 in cash. You thank him profusely, but then he laughs scornfully and snatches the money back. Can you see the situation without any emotion? This is a dramatic example of how everything we see comes with an interpretation at the level of feeling.

Why You Need a Vacation: 5 Benefits of Disconnecting

vacation
Are you among the 55% of Americans who don’t take their allotted vacation time from work? That may not be such a good move for your health, happiness, or productivity. There are important reasons why you need a vacation instead of burning the candle at both ends.

Because I travel so much for all the seminars, workshops, trainings, and speeches I give — as well as all the time I spend writing books or recording new online courses and video blogs when I am home — my wife was becoming upset about the lack of time we were spending together.

She suggested we take a month-long vacation together to reconnect and deepen our relationship with each other. So we rented a house on the ocean in Maui, Hawaii, for a whole month.

At first, I was nervous about being away from my work for a whole month, but with the success of our online programs that don’t require my live presence every week, and the ability to prerecord video blogs and social media messages, it turned out fine.

I made an agreement with my wife that I could write and handle critical emails for a maximum of two hours a day, and the rest of the time I would spend with her.

As I reflect on the month, here are five valuable insights and lessons that I learned about the value of disconnecting through taking a vacation. Hopefully, they’ll help you discover why you need a vacation too.
