Find Your North Star

Where are you headed?

The Practice:
Find your North Star.

Why?

I did a meditation retreat (at Spirit Rock, wonderful place, including for workshops). One evening as we walked out of the hall after the last sit, I was feeling rattled and discombobulated. (One of the benefits of a retreat – though it can be uncomfortable – is that it stirs up of the sediments of your psyche, which can muddy your mental waters for a while.)

I looked up at the stars shining brightly in the cold clear night, and soon noticed the Big Dipper. My eyes followed its pointing to Polaris, the North Star, and a wave of easing came over me. The star felt steady and reassuring, something you could count on. It connected I think with a young part of me who loved the outdoors and learned to believe that as long as he could locate the North Star, he could find his way out of the tangled woods and back to safety.

What’s Your WORD for 2021?

This year I don’t plan to make any resolutions.

If I learned anything from 2020 it’s that trying to make plans while in the center of a chaotic cyclone is a set up for disappointment and frustration.

Instead, I am going to make ONE WORD the focal point of my biggest desire for 2021 and that word is CONTENTMENT.

Striving for contentment isn’t a new thing with me, but it is something that I now want to master now.

There were many years when my focus was happiness, but I’ve learned that for me, happiness is not the ultimate goal because happiness is tied to other people, outside circumstances, and unforeseeable experiences.

Creating A New Vision For The New Year!

Welcome, 2021!

We have so many hopes pinned on this new year. It will take us a while to process and implement the vast need for social change and healing illuminated in 2020. Maybe in the past we’d say “that’s it” for last year and be quite glad to see it in our rear-view mirror. But this paradigm shift will require us to pause and take a deep respectful breath of hope knowing there is still a lot of patience and work still ahead as we traverse the in between time from what was to what will be.

The old way is being dismantled and  being cleared away, and even if we’re not 100% where we hoped we’d be, we are still making room for more love, creativity, courage, compassion, hope…and joy. This and that will be true!

And, if there is one thing I know for sure.

How we consider and integrate the past has a huge impact on how we experience our future. “If we do what we did we’re gonna get what we got!”

Let the New Year ring in with feelings of Peace, Joy and Tranquility

A new day, a new way of life, this is just as things have been for many months now. It is time that humanity took " a leap of faith" into the future.

Lifetimes seemed to have passed since the onset of the Pandemic situation.  Many people seem to have catapulted their lives completely.  It has been rather intriguing to watch the whole world coming together for a common cause.  In a way, forgetting their differences of caste,  color or creed,  just moving into a common space of "action".  It also makes us think that,  after all,  we are Beings  who could Globally come together for causes, for the betterment of humanity at large.

Of course there has been suffering,  in long terms , of mental,  emotional and physical issues,  yet is up-to the individual to decide how he needs to cope with it.

As the energies on the planet go through a change,  there has also been time for people on an individual level, to go through their own intrinsic change.

People have been facing a huge challenge in terms of their own inherent self. Looking within,  and coming to terms with their own reality,  has been a great revelation for a lot of mankind. So armed with this new level of awareness, I think it is time, for all of us to look at life from a completely new perspective.

The Keys To More Freedom

There's a deeper intuitive part of us that is seeking freedom, but the way we're seeking freedom through the finite to try to get an infinite experience is actually never ending and it's a dead end path.”

What does freedom mean to you? We have been conditioned and hypnotized to seek freedom outside of ourselves, in the external world. That feeling of ‘when I achieve this’ or ‘if I could do that’ are thoughts that condition us to feel less than and in victimhood. This is not freedom. Listen to this episode and learn how to shift your mindset, gain a new perspective and obtain freedom within yourself. Free yourself.

The Secret of Making a New and True Beginning

There can be no starting place in our lives any truer than what our own awareness of the present moment permits. This friendly fact tells us that our life direction, our actual destiny, is determined by the level of our awareness that attends the full range of each step we take.

It's crucial for us to understand that the thrust of our habitual thinking lives with its attention fixed, not on beginnings, but on the end of things. Don't we always wonder what our lives will be like tomorrow? Aren't we forever dreaming about how different things will be once we win this or achieve that? Don't we, in our mind's eye, perpetually walk towards a brighter moment to come, thinking about how good we'll feel once we're able to resolve some nagging situation?

How to Cultivate True Willpower

Cultivating willpower is about [01:10] the ability to build circuitry to sustain yourself as the Soulful Self. If you’ve ever started something, a diet, a project, a new year’s resolution, and ran out of steam before completing, you’re not alone.

[01:46] It’s because you’re living as a compensation for your past if you don’t realize that we all land here in stressful circumstances and dysfunctional family dynamics in some way. Thus we need to learn how to build circuitry.

This happens because we are here to awaken to a greater version of life than we see on the outside. [02:58] And because we don’t know that, we look to the outside for a sign that “I’m okay.”

Our Conscious Choice and Desires

So very many times we are told by spiritual mentors and well meaning friends "Look within for the answers your heart desires" . It is actually all about creating a balance between the inside self and our outward demeanor, do we truly understand what this means.

Why is it that we are not feeling truly aligned within ourselves or with the Universe. It is perhaps our own weakness that does not allow this to happen. The main reason could be a lack of confidence in our abilities.

We must learn to comprehend that the answers lie in our own subconscious mind. The moment we have accepted action in our subconscious mind, we create a new reality.

Just Start

..... It has been said that every big dream begins with a single step.

Yet we often don’t take the first step.
We wait.

For the right time.
For the right person to show up.
For the Universe to help us.

We don’t start.
And in doing so, we often don’t manifest our vision.

The hardest part tends to be the first step.
So I made a simple video to remind you to “Just start.”

What is one thing you can do today?

December 2020 Energetic Forecast and Predictions

To explore the energetic forecast of a person’s life, or of an event; I close my eyes with the intention of receiving a message.  I will be shown an image or a story in my mind’s eye.  After I see the vision, I translate the meaning.  Early this morning was no different.  I sat in candle light and prayer.   I was shown the potential for renewal in December.   Using cards, meditation, and deeper exploration of my vision, I made predictions.

Imagine extended hands gently offering a garnet-colored lotus blossom.  This radiant creation is resting lightly on open palms.  Intuitively you recognize this ethereal inspiration is not received or even recognized by everyone.

You understand there is nothing to control.  Deep down, you know this lotus is not in a tangible form.  The vision is possibly a dream created by the perfect alchemy of your mind and the Universe.

December’s energy shifts offers many moments of the unexpected, even mystifying experiences, visions, and interactions.

One of the most important ideas to understand; we each have the ability to see a door swing wide open.  This allows you to witness your dreams unfolding.  December will require trust and patience.

Mark Nepo's Weekly Reflection: The Mending Quality of Life

The slightest nudge in the fabric of existence alters everything. The shift of an atom when no one is looking can turn a molecule into a disease that covers the Earth, as in the pandemic we are suffering. Similarly, one small act of care can birth a food source that can feed the world. As happened 10,000—14,000 years ago, when an anonymous Chinese farmer first domesticated seed from wild grass to cultivate the first known rice field near the middle stretch of the Yangtze River.

In just this way, the opening of a soul’s eye under all trouble can turn darkness into light. This, too, can cover the Earth. Still, life in its totality has always been overwhelming, though the world has always turned on the smallest gesture. To stay devoted to how life will always join other life while never knowing if your effort makes a difference is at the heart of an enduring, nameless faith. We can describe this nameless joining as the irrepressible life-force emanating through us to keep remaking the world, no matter how many times things fall apart.

Knowing When To Shut Up

Lately I’ve been craving silence.

Silence in my surroundings and silence in my own internal world.

The craziness of the world between politics and Covid and everything else, has generated so much noise, especially the noise of my opinions and everyone else’s.

The other day I saw these words on Instagram (@buddha.says) that blew me away:

“Open Your Mouth Only If What You Are Going To
Say Is More Beautiful Than Silence.”

Three Levels Of The Mind: Access To A Glorious, Joyous And Abundantly Happy Life.

When the whole world is reeling under stress, I pick up my pen once more to write, to heal, to help people deal with their lives and their issues. To be honest with myself and my readers I will say that I was on a sabbatical from my own self, from ideating, from being In charge, in control of myself, my emotions and all else that I was constantly resounding with.

I wanted to learn on three levels of the mind, the conscious, the sub conscious and the super conscious, what this Pandemic has come to teach us. On a deeper level of the mind, I realize that a whole lot happened that caught the entire world unaware and forced them to lead a life, they thought they had never chosen.

We must realize of course, that we have an infinite supply of riches within us. But in order to reach this treasure house of infinity within, one needs to open one's mental eyes. This will access you to a glorious, joyous and abundantly happy life. Most people live like zombies, they are completely unaware of this unlimited storehouse of infinite intelligence within themselves. From their own levels of limited assumptions, they operate.

Five Ways to Make Your Home Shelter-in-Place Friendly

How long have we been stuck at home now? Has it really been months? Ask your home how it feels from your climbing its proverbial walls, and it may well be ready for a refresh too.

Recently I’ve gotten serious about “refreshing” our house, from having the carpets cleaned to replacing some furniture, filling boxes with books to give away and clearing clutter.

Surprisingly, one of the things that made a huge difference was buying a new doormat for the front door! For the past fifteen years, I’ve walked across an old, ugly, cat hair covered door mat. Now I have a beautiful, dark red mat that makes me smile.

Who knew such a simple change could bring so much joy?

This happened after a quick consult with my friend, Stephanie Bennett Vogt, MA, who just happens to be a leading space clearing expert, and the author of four books including YOUR SPACIOUS SELF and A YEAR TO CLEAR.

I’ve asked Stephanie to share with us her best five “one minute” tips on how to make sheltering at home more beautiful and more friendly. Enjoy!

Your Part In The Global Symphony!

The other day, I came across the most moving video that I’ve seen in a long time. It’s called the Virtual Choir from Eric Whitacre, and the premise is simple: One man pulls together over 17,000 separate voices from 129 different countries in one single piece of music.

When I heard the voices blending, melding, lifting each other up in song and harmony, I couldn’t hold the tears back. “This is how it’s supposed to be!” I said to myself. “This is what Life is all about.”

Here’s their Virtual Choir 6:

Our Shared Future

I've Been Thinking...

I read a news story the other day that really tugged at my mind and my heart.

When I first saw it, I was sitting in my office. It popped up in my news feed and I quickly scanned it then immediately got distracted by my work and moved on.

That night, while I was sitting alone on my couch, the same story popped up on my television. This time I let it sink in. The story was about seniors across the country dying from isolation and loneliness. As one death certificate stated, they are dying from a “failure to thrive.” What in the name of God is happening to our country and to us? I thought. I turned off the TV and just sat there staring at the wall, alone with my thoughts.

3 Ways You Exhaust Yourself—and how to revive your thrive

I am seeing more zombies lately, and I’m not talking about Halloween. I’m talking about the walking tired. Deadened eyes, pale skin, broken hearts. Yes, we live in interesting times. But I’m more concerned with the casual sadness we inflict upon ourselves.

What if you’re not drained? What if you’re pained …and the pain is a cry for honesty, passion, and the dazzling happiness that is your soul’s intrinsic birthright?

This month I offer you these three revolutionary questions to ask yourself. And to answer with the rest of your life. (So please don’t go for perfection. Let’s do this gradually…and consistently…because you’re worth this life-changing change!)

It's Time For The Tender Warrior

I've Been Thinking...

Not too long ago, a friend suggested I write down the definition, values, and characteristics of the “divine feminine.” He said it would be a “good exercise” for me moving forward.

“Mhmm, OK,” I thought.

I sat down to give it a try and ended up staring at the paper for a long time. I wrote something and erased it, and I tried again and again. Nothing really felt right to me.

Then last Sunday in this newsletter, I wrote my essay about courage and tenderness. The response I got was overwhelming, from both men and women.

“That is what we need!” people wrote to me. “That’s who I want to be!” My friend Elizabeth suggested I even curate a new conference called “Courage and Tenderness: The New Hero’s Journey.” Others wrote that they had never contemplated tenderness in the public space, but that they were open to it, even hungry for it. (An old video of Joe Biden resurfaced this week that visualized what I’m talking about.)

Try A Little Tenderness

I've Been Thinking...

Earlier this week, I thought I was going to write this Sunday about the long lines people have been standing in to vote. Then I thought I was going to write about Amy Coney Barrett’s testimony in front of the Senate. Then I watched the dueling town halls on Thursday night and thought, “OK, I’ll write about that.” (As usual, a lot happened this week, and there was a lot to think about.) But then Pope Francis got me. He always gets me.

This week, the Pope wrote: “Tenderness is the path of choice for the strongest, most courageous men and women.”

Tenderness and courage in the same sentence. I love that! I know you can get the news of the week anywhere, so instead, I want to focus on these words. Embodying them could really benefit us in the coming weeks.

If ever there was a time for courageous men and women to step forward, it is now. But how we step forward is the key. We are inundated with examples of people stepping forward with rage, anger, and the intention to rile us up, confuse us, gaslight us, and scare us. It’s a lot, but when the Pope suggested stepping out with tenderness, I took a deep breath. It was a breath of relief. It made me feel like, “OK, we’ve got this. We can do this. Here is the path. Here are my directions.”

Now, I didn’t grow up with tenderness. I didn’t hear the courageous people around me even speak the word. But I have felt tenderness in my life and I know that it can be life-changing. Bestowing tenderness on an individual allows a person to feel seen. It allows them to soften and feel their worth.
