It's easy to forget that we are all perfect in our own design. Sometimes we muck it up with habits and choices that do not serve us.

What Is Consciousness?

Our consciousness is that to which we pay attention. It is our mental awareness. It can be defined as both the conscious and the subconscious mind and all they embody.

Our consciousness is simply everything we have ever believed and accepted to be the truth about ourselves. We have been told who we are and how to think all of our lives. We can change our consciousness by adding new ideas such as affirmative prayer and meditation. We begin to add new beliefs into our consciousness as we learn how to think for ourselves.

Our new beliefs attract greatness into our lives. The ultimate embodiment of consciousness is knowing God is good all the time.

Continuous Conscious Connection

You and I are always connected to the Source of all living energy in the universe. The thing is we forget that connection is always with us. Humans have given it many names to remind themselves throughout the course of their existence on Earth (God, Goddess, Divinity, etc.), but then they become distracted by the details of daily life, and conscious memory slips away. This amnesia makes everything more difficult because on some level we feel untethered and lost. We think we are alone in the cosmos, without purpose or support. This is not true, but how do we find our way back to the deep-seated knowing that lives within? How do we recognize divine Presence in every moment, in everything we experience?

Express Yourself!

I am much more fascinated with near-life experiences, however. I do not know what happens when we die. I have a sense of it, yet no deity or God has told me to tell you what happens for sure. As a spiritual leader, I am going to continue to leave that mystery to my Creator. I am more interested in what happens while we are living than I am in spending my life in the unknown of what happens when we die.

I am more interested in not dying while I am living. I am more interested in teaching and facilitating processes that encourage people to have more life experiences rather than near-life experiences, or almost fully living experiences.

Powered And Fueled By Love

What you are is the love we all need. Love is the truth of who you are.

Life is a question of attention. When we finally allow ourselves to be who we are, we are able to accept the blessing of our life . . . the beauty that is our life.

4 New Ideas for Your Spiritual Practice

Spiritual practice can take many forms.  Often, when people think about spiritual practices the first things that come to mind are mediation or prayer.  Indeed, these are very valuable practices.  However, if you’re looking for some ideas for adding variety to your own practice you might want to consider some of these options.

Shinrin-yoku
This is the Japanese practice of “forest bathing” and can be as simple to practice as going for a walk in the woods.  To get the full benefits of this practice, take your time and use all your senses.  As Dr. Qing Li points out in his book titled Forest Bathing: How Trees Can Help You Find Health and Happiness, “Shinrin-yoku is like a bridge.  By opening our senses, it bridges the gap between us and the natural world.”

Forest bathing is an excellent way to bring more mindfulness into your daily life as you slow down and truly observe the natural surroundings.  In addition to improving mindfulness, forest bathing is also good for your health.

Dr. Qing Li has found that forest bathing can “boost the immune system, increase energy, decrease anxiety, depression, and anger and recuse stress and bring about a state of relaxation.”

Labyrinth Walk
While forest bathing requires nothing more than getting out in nature, a labyrinth walk can only be done if you have access to a labyrinth.  Fortunately, labyrinths are becoming more common and are easy to find thanks to the work of Dr. Lauren Artress.  Her Labyrinth locator website (https://labyrinthlocator.com) can be used to find labyrinths in the United States.  A quick check of my state found 83 labyrinths so it is likely that there is a labyrinth near you.

As Dr. Artress puts it in her book Walking a Sacred Path: Rediscovering the Labyrinth as a Spiritual Practice, the labyrinth has “reemerged today as a metaphor for the spiritual journey and as a powerful tool for transformation.”  The path of the labyrinth provides a guide for the practitioner to follow.  The labyrinth is not a maze, rather it is a unicursal path with one way in and one way out.  Walking the path allows for deep spiritual contemplation and renewal.

Smudging
The labyrinth walk is a good example of a ritual with structured steps, literally a specific singular path to follow.  As Sasha Sagan writes in her book For creatures Such as We: Rituals for Finding Meaning in Our Unlikely World, there is “something deeply reassuring about performing the specific steps” of a ritual.  It can also be deeply meaningful and reassuring to perform rituals at specific times of the year.  Smudging with sage offers a good way to add an element of spiritual ritual to specific points in time.

Burning sage can be part of a ritual celebration of the seasons.  Many people practice smudging on the solstices and equinoxes.  Smudging could also be practiced to welcome each new month, the new year, or the new moon.

Like forest bathing, there may also be health benefits to burning sage which include reducing stress, improving the quality of your sleep, and boosting your cognition.  It may also help purify the air in your home and reduce allergens (https://www.healthline.com/health/benefits-of-burning-sage#release-negativity).

Silence
The practice of silence is usually connected with monks or nuns who take a vow of silence for an extended period.  But, the practice can be beneficial when used intermittently and for shorter periods.  Anne LeClaire writes about her own experience of making each Monday a day of silence and the benefits of this practice in her book Listening Below the Noise: The Transformative Power of Silence.

Silence is a perfect addition to any spiritual practice including the ones listed above.  Forest bathing in silence can heighten your mindfulness and allow you to experience nature with a whole new depth that can be missed when you are talking.  Many people walk a labyrinth in silence as well to fully connect with the spiritual journey.  While often accompanied by a chant or prayer, smudging can also be done in mindful silence.

Each of these practices offers unique benefits and it is possible to combine them or use them in conjunction with other practices you already follow.  They can be rewarding additions to your practice as well as provide you with possible health benefits.

A Letter from Your Soul

It’s me, your Soul. Remember me? We used to talk a lot, but I haven’t heard much from you. With all that you’ve been going through lately, I feel like you’re pulling away from me.

Times are tough now, believe me I know. I’ve been with you all your life. We’ve been through a lot together. I know what makes you the happiest and I also know what pushes your buttons and pushes you away from your goals and dreams.

Does Parenting Crimp Your Spiritual Development?

Over my years of working as a psychic and coaching other in spiritual matters, the challenge of raising children and having time and energy for a vibrant spiritual practice has come up often. It is not uncommon, when a person has a shift in their inner world, they suddenly want to jump 100 percent into the metaphysical world.

Occasionally seekers wonder how to continue the constant caring for children while honoring their spiritual path.

The frustration of not being able to commit to your new channeling ability or tarot reading skills, is not often brought up in children play groups. If anyone reading this has experienced frustration and guilt because you have very little time for your metaphysical practices you are not alone.

A Simple Tool To Change Your World…Allow Yourself To Breathe

The world is a reflection of you because you are the universe.

Perhaps that seems like a bold statement.

I share it because I’m often asked, “How can I change the world?” The answer is for you to come home to the core and build circuits so that you perceive with clarity and a loving, compassionate, conscious presence everything happening in the world.

Time of Great REIMAGINING

I know that you are going through life changes and I know that you are being called to redefine your lives according to your hearts. And while this can be scary, there is no better time in human history to get divorced, or to go through a medical issue or to look for a new job. There is no better time in history than now.

Learn to Embrace this Quiet Understanding

Regardless of the assertion of any fearful state that seeks to convince you otherwise, apply this one great truth:

That fear must break down if it doesn’t succeed in breaking down your willingness to test its reality. How do you conduct such a test? You learn to look at its presence within you with the quiet understanding that, in reality, nothing in life is fixed. All things change. Everything passes. This is truth. Knowing this to be true is power over fearful states that hold us captive.

Survival and Beyond

We are all survivors of one kind or another. Whether encountering a diagnosis, a deep loss, or daily challenges, each of us passes through various life experiences that can serve as gateways to more expansive awareness. Surviving doesn’t have to mean perpetual struggle. Among breast cancer survivors (of which I am now one), survival has become a badge of honor combined with a positive outlook. Having just completed treatment, I feel both relief and a bit of uncertainty at being on the other side of all that I have experienced since my initial diagnosis last summer. Because I have friends who are long-time breast cancer survivors and because I trust my doctors, I have felt optimistic throughout. Yet the kernel of “what next?” inevitably arises at some point.

Does Your Life Need Pruning?

Rebirthing is a strong part of our life experiences that most people have yet to make a connection with. We die often in this lifetime, and we are born again in this lifetime.

Welcome the Illuminating Moment

Have you noticed yet that wherever you go, the thing that you don’t want the most seems to know where you are? Seriously. It doesn’t just know where you are. The Divine has created the conditions under which a reaction will be stirred and brought into your consciousness so that you can finally realize that running from it doesn’t change the reality of it. Only bringing it into the light of a new order of awareness can bring into its presence the fulfillment of itself. Why? Because you start to understand the reaction is just what you don’t know about yourself yet.

Your Soul Knows What You Need

6 Tools For Spiritual Alignment

The beginning of a new calendar year holds a sacred and potent energy.  January may be over, but that doesn’t mean you can’t continue to use this inspiring energy to continue navigating your spiritual journey with confidence throughout the whole year.

February is the perfect time to reflect on your intentions, what you want your year to look like and how you want to feel about your life. In my Vision Board Challenge last month we focused on cultivating a feeling state in order to bring our visions to life. But beyond creating a vision board, how do we consciously work toward that desired feeling state in a way that feels abundant?

The Most Involved Are The Most Evolved

I have always loved the statement “The most involved are the most evolved.” I have experienced this as truth so many times in meeting people throughout the country and learning how valuable their spiritual path is to them and the energy they put into it.

Stephen Covey says, “It is easy to say ‘no’ when deep within there is a burning desire to say ‘Yes.’” A number of years ago, I realized that I longed to have my spiritual path be a priority to me and yet I always had reasons to be BUSY and put it off. I lived in the them / me world. Let me get everything else in order and then I will create this special time for myself. Let me help them and then I can help myself.

Let Your “Higher Self ” Be Your Guide

We’re all here to develop as individualized expressions of God. We gather and commune with others in different ways to remind ourselves of that very nature. We remind each other that we are Divine and that we’re God’s Beloved. And we recognize the crucial nature of being true to ourselves, and of becoming that authentic self.

Spread Your Wings And Fly!

Are you now at a point where you have broken free of the prison of the personality? If so, you are swimming in this ocean of potential and possibilities and from this place the highest manifestation of your life.

I don’t know about you, but I’ve heard spiritual prophecy in my life and I believe we are actually alive at that pinnacle point of prophecy, that time on the planet where individuals like you and I, will once again return to our natural state of being. And in doing so, we shift the course of our collective history as a planet.

The Enlightened Rebel: ACTION WHEN IT MATTERS

Through the years, when someone asked me if I was a person of violence, I would be very quick to say ”no.”

I had only hit one boy when I was in elementary school and it startled both of us so much that we both remember it to this day! I have come to understand through the teachings of Gandhi and his grandson Arun that so much of our violence is passive. It’s the way we are unwilling to speak when we see something absolutely wrong or not in alignment with our values.

It’s when we get angry about a situation and we allow it to take us to the level of the violence, rather than approaching our anger as an Enlightened Rebel. Anger is good medicine. When used as a spiritual human practice, you learn to transcend the emotion
to a place of proactive action. That is when you have discovered the mystery of what life is longing for.

Find Stillness

What doesn’t change?

The Practice:
Find stillness.

Why?

Things keep changing. The clock ticks, the day unfolds, trees grow, leaves turn brown, hair turns gray, children grow up and leave home, attention skitters from this to that, the cookie is delicious but then it’s all gone, you’re mad about something for a while and then get over it, consciousness streams on and on and on.

Many changes are certainly good. Most people are glad to put middle school behind them. I’m still happy about shifting thirty years ago from single to married. Painkillers, flush toilets, and the internet seem like pretty good ideas. It’s lovely to watch grass waving in the wind or a river passing. Fundamentally, if there were no change, nothing could happen, reality would be frozen forever. I once asked my friend Tom what he thought God was and he said “possibility.”
