Give Yourself the Greatest Prize This World Has to Offer

Of what use is our endless struggle to adapt and even achieve some of the more common culturally-valued prizes, knowing (as all of us do) that nothing we can ever possess has the power to stave off our own inevitable passing?

The following quotation that I just love is from Vernon Howard, a great twentieth century mystic, that  not only helps to put this idea that we’re looking at right now into proper perspective for us, but as we’ll see, it also hints at a far more appealing possibility at the same time. He said, “It is wise to seek immortality, for time defeats all other ambitions.”

I remember the first time I heard that. I just knew that he was alluding to something that required my full attention, because obviously, everything that we do… or I should say conversely, nothing we do, that we win from this world… we can take with us. But apparently there is another order of life, another order of our self, that we can enter into that allows us to have the best of both worlds but never fear losing what we have won in time on this planet.

Fear Of Connecting To Our Source

Why do you fear connecting to others? Have you noticed that your life is more enjoyable when you stay in your comfort zone and never put yourself out there? I know you might be wondering how to overcome your fear of connecting to others.

I'm here to help! First, let's start by defining this fear and what it means for your life.

Fear is a natural human emotion that can protect us from danger or hurt. It helps us avoid situations where we feel vulnerable and unsafe, but sometimes it tends to go hand in hand with anxiety.

Fear can be defined as a "powerful emotion that makes you afraid or anxious about something harmful, unpleasant, or threatening." When we feel fear, our heart rate increases and adrenaline flows through our bodies. This feeling in the body is a natural response to danger.

The problem with fear is when it becomes an overused reaction to situations. Because of this, many people have developed post-traumatic stress disorder. They are being exposed to too many trauma-related stimuli without time to process their feelings about them.

Enlightened Rebel: GOD IS MISSING

YOU CANNOT BE BORN UNTIL YOU DIE, AND YOU CANNOT DIE UNTIL YOU WAKE UP

A couple had two little boys, ages eight  and ten, who were excessively mischievous.

The two were always getting into trouble and their parents could be confident that if any mischief occurred in their town, their two young sons were involved in some capacity. The parents were at their wit’s end as to what to do about their sons’ behavior. The parents had heard that a clergyman in town had been successful in disciplining children in the past, so they contacted him and he agreed to give it his best shot. He asked to see the boys individually, so the eight-year-old was sent to meet with him first.

The clergyman sat the boy down and asked him sternly, “Where is God?” The boy made no response, so the clergyman repeated the question in an even sterner tone, “Where is God?”

Tapping Into Your God Given Power

Empowerment is a term used to describe the process of becoming stronger and more confident in one's abilities, often through gaining knowledge or experience. Some people believe that we are all born with an innate power inside of us and it is up to us as individuals to tap into this power and use it for good rather than evil.

Whether you call this ability God-given or something else entirely, there is no denying the fact that some people have an easier time "tapping" into their powers while others struggle greatly. The following steps will help you discover your own inner strength and learn how best to use your power for good!

There is a quote by Albert Einstein that says "If you always put limits on everything you do, physical or anything else. It will spread into your work and into your life. There are no limits. There are only plateaus, and you must not stay there; you must go beyond them." This is very true when it comes to tapping into the power within yourself and using it in all aspects of life.

You are born with an amazing power that is not given to anyone else in this world. You have the ability to create your own reality, your destiny and career. Sometimes we get so consumed by what others say or do that it takes away from our true potential and power. The only one who can limit you is yourself! Let's tap into your power and unleash the greatness within you.

Quiet Genius: CREATIVITY & ADDICTION

I have had the greatest joy of being sober for more than 30 years.
In my first year of Ministerial School in Fort Lauderdale, Florida I had a Divine awakening. I awoke in the middle of the night to a voice that said, “If you want to live, do not ever drink again.” It was like the statement from Jungian Psychology:

"First you must realize you are asleep; then you wake up. Then you die so you may be born. You cannot be born until you die, and you cannot die until you wake up."

Shedding

In the second week after my first chemotherapy treatment for breast cancer, I began to lose my hair. Like a white angora cat, I shed hairs everywhere: on my clothing, in the shower drain, on my chair, in my hairbrush. Sometimes they drifted down onto my shoulders like cherry blossoms in the springtime; other times they clumped like small snowdrifts on my pillow. All of it strangely fascinating to me, as if they were bits of my identity falling away, freeing me even further at a soul level.

That may seem an odd way to view it; yet the process feels symbolic of a larger shedding that occurs as I clear out the clutter of a lifetime of identities. To be human is to move through many experiences and identities. I used to gather identities like flowers in a basket (flower child, activist, feminist, lesbian, writer, editor, spiritual seeker), feeling glad that I was eclectic and not tied to any one self-identification. I felt freer that way. As the years went by and my spiritual practice expanded, I began to realize that freedom is a much more expansive designation when viewed from the soul’s perspective.

Quiet Genius: THE POWER OF ONENESS

I have had the great blessings of being with Unity and Science of Mind all of my adult life.

When people ask me the biggest difference between the two organizations, I always say, “Leadership.” It’s really the consciousness of the leader which creates community and the way he or she shares the principles. I loved the many years serving as a Science of Mind minister and frequenting the beautiful grounds of Asilomar for our conventions.

As I reflect upon my life and my mission of uniting differences, I feel one of my biggest passions has been to show people the importance of understanding how related both Unity and Science of Mind teachings are. I consider it especially important to show the relationship between the two spiritual pathways, now at this time in history, as we are sharing dreams and visions with our global communities about practicing and living from a place of oneness.

Infinity Vision

“On a clear day, you can see forever.”—Burton Lane

Several years ago, after a somewhat worrisome eye diagnosis, I had the extraordinary experience of looking out my window and seeing the external world moving in perfect synchronicity to the Andrea Bocelli music I was listening to. Every detail—people walking, cars passing, tree leaves in the wind—was part of a divinely choreographed dance of deeply connected oneness. And I too was part of it. There was nothing in the universe that sat alone on the sidelines within God’s creation. And I could see this so clearly that the power and beauty of it moved me to tears. Infinity vision, beyond an eye diagnosis.

Catching Messages from Heaven

Every relationship that we have in our life—our contact with each person, place, and event—serves a very special, if yet to be realized, purpose: it is a mirror that reveals things to us about ourselves that can be realized in no other way. I think this is one of the reasons that so many of us love to be out and about in that great showroom of life called Mother Nature.

For instance, gazing into the depths of a night sky we realize a sense of something vast and timeless; in her mountains we sense the soul of majesty; in any newborn there’s a sense of an all but forgotten innocence. With all that touches us this way, we are made aware of a life larger than our own, yet one that is inseparable from the part of us that stands as witness to it.

Through these relationships we glimpse the ineffable. By their touch we are awakened to realize that whatever we behold in this world is but a mirror of the worlds above, and that all of these worlds reside within us. The soul knows this to be true: that in the common hides the celestial, and so it waits, watchful, never knowing when or where it will catch a message from heaven. Such moments are never announced. They enter quietly, unexpectedly, and—as the following illustration helps make clear—though they vanish into thin air, their impression lasts forever.

5 Ways You Can Think You Are on a Spiritual Path, But Not Be

"...The form our faith takes is less important than the love it imparts....The bedrock of spirituality is to learn about love."
--Judith Orloff, M.D. Second Sight, p. 166-167

The spiritual path is a path of love. There are many people who claim to be devoted to a spiritual path, yet love seems not to be a part of their path. What are they doing that they claim is spiritual if learning about loving themselves and others is not their highest priority?

  1. Some people attempt to use religion and prayer as a form of control - hoping to have control over getting what they want if they pray "right," or believe the "right" thing. Often, they are very judgmental toward others who don't believe as they do, which certainly has nothing to do with love.

The Truth of You

Many of you are living in this misunderstanding or false framework for what evolution is and what transformation looks like. You’ve got it all wrong about you. You are the most beautiful thing in creation.

What you have to get or understand or begin to become aware of is the fact that every aspect of you is true. The created self is true, everything you deemed as the contraction or what’s unlovable about you and the part where nothing matters, where everything is in a state of flow, that is also true.

Think You’re Psychic? Test Your Skills!

Think You’re Psychic? Test Your Skills!"

  • How are your intuitive abilities?
  • Do you sense things that others may not see?
  • Can you predict certain occurrences before they happen?

Here are the best ways to begin sharpening your skills and strengthening the link to your psychic awareness:

  1. Give yourself permission to explore and develop your intuition.
  2. Practice! Practice! Practice!

Remember, you're born with intuitive abilities. The best thing you can do is allow yourself the time and space to start using them. Don’t listen to the naysayers or those who don’t understand or believe the power you have within you. Move forward, learn what you can and keep actively practicing your skills.

Quiet Genius: BEYOND THE SURFACE

Within all appearances of plain and ordinary there is tremendous potential.

Ernest Holmes would go to the drugstore each day for a snack. One day, he saw a drunk man and offered to buy him a cup of coffee. The man accepted. As Ernest spoke with him while he was sobering up over his cup of coffee, he discovered that the man was a sign painter. Ernest asked the manager of the store for some paper and some markers and asked the man to paint some signs with letters and numbers. The store manager who was watching this stated that he actually needed some signs.

“How much are you going to pay him?” asked Ernest. The manager made an agreement with the man to create some signs, and agreed to pay him for his work and expertise. A few months later a man knocked at Ernest's office and asked to see him. He was clean shaven and wearing a nice suit he had purchased from the thrift store. He came to say thank you to Ernest. Ernest told him to get in the car and they rode around until Ernest saw a store for lease and made arrangements for the man to start his own business. The man became successful and repaid Ernest.

Ernest Holmes was a Quiet Genius. He could see the genius within others and make a difference in their lives. I still use this story as a guideline in my life of what small or sizable ways I may be of service to another living being. Some acts are small and happen quickly while other acts of a Quiet Genius happen over time. I have returned payments for services rendered and given away important things of value to me because spiritually I felt guided to do so knowing I may positively impact someone’s life.

Who knows who we may truly be if someone like Ernest Holmes or some other Quiet Genius would come along and see our further potential?

How Does The Spiritual Path Work?

Right now and in the recent past I’ve encountered more people than ever before who have set out on their own spiritual path. They have become inspired by higher consciousness; they’ve gotten excited about “follow your bliss.” But a cynic would point out that we have been hearing about the emergence of higher consciousness for at least fifty years, and yet collective enlightenment isn’t in sight. The reason for being discouraged is that with the evolution of consciousness, a straight-line path isn’t feasible.

Instead, the evolution of consciousness works differently from any other project, if I may call it that. When you set out to accomplish something, what is your course of action? No matter whether it involves building a house, reaching a peace accord between nations, or making dinner, the steps involved include the following: deciding what your goal is, setting up a plan to achieve the goal, assessing how long it will take, what materials you need, and making sure that you are ready and able to get to work.

Quiet Genius: NO ROOM IN THE INN FOR CRITICISM

The author Don Miguel Ruiz reminds us to be impeccable with our word and to speak with integrity.

Say only what you mean. Avoid using the word to speak against yourself or to gossip about others. Use the power of your word in the direction of truth and love.

Too many companies and work environments are highly impacted by the gossip at the water fountain or conversations behind closed doors. Perhaps you remember the old axiom, “We change, we accept, or we leave.”

If we are unable or unwilling to accept what we hear, then we need to empower ourselves to not constantly rehearse the pros and cons of the individual that we are having difficulties with. It makes us appear as if we do not have an interesting life.

Everyday Oracles

Do you ever wish that you could talk directly to your higher power – asking for guidance and receiving clear signs and signals to keep you on track along your journey?

Whether or not we are aware of it, Spirit (the Universe, God, the Divine, or whatever you choose to call it) is always looking out for us and keeping us on track for our highest good. Even in our most challenging times, Spirit is there for us.

But so much of the time, we miss the communication that is available to us every single day through the conscious Universe. Whether or not we choose to pay attention or listen, Spirit is always communicating with us and is there as our partner to protect and guide us.

We just have to learn to slow down, tune in, and receive the guidance and the messages that are all around.

If you’ve ever found yourself craving messages from spirit or signs from the Universe, you will find immense value, meaning, and peace in learning to understand and recognize everyday Oracles.

Recognizing the presence of everyday Oracles

There are countless ways the Universe sends you messages. It could be a series of repeating numbers, a song on the radio that catches your attention, a symbol you ask for and recognize, a dream, a meaningful coincidence, or even a message in your soup bowl…

In fact, these communications from the Divine are so common and so meaningful that I wrote an entire book about them! My book, Messages From Spirit is all about the many ways in which we can communicate with our higher power through the world around us.

In the book, I share a story about Tasseography, a type of divination that my father shared with me as a young girl. He taught me to read messages in leftover coffee grounds, an ancient practice found in Slavic and Baltic nations as well as the middle east. It’s closely related to tea-leaf reading, which actually had its known beginnings in China although no one knows 100% of its origin.

The story goes that a close friend of mine was visiting and we had discussed the idea of going out to dinner, and then going home afterward to share some Turkish coffee and read the messages in the leftover grinds.

At dinner, we both ordered a thick squash soup. As I ate my soup, I kept seeing images popping up in the bowl! I saw a swan, a pumpkin, and a baby.

Addiction to Spirituality: The Spiritual Bypass

Are you using your spirituality as a "spiritual bypass" to avoid feeling your feelings and taking responsibility for them?

Lian had been meditating for many years before consulting with me for his depression. He had been part of a spiritual community that encouraged their members to turn to God through prayer and meditation whenever they were feeling any difficult or painful feelings such as anger, hurt, anxiety or depression. He had been taught that Spirit would transmute his feelings for him and bring him the inner peace he sought.

Yet Lian was depressed. "I have faithfully practiced what I've been taught, so why am I still depressed? What am I doing wrong?"

Lian was suffering from what is called "spiritual bypass."
