THE SACRAL CHAKRA / Svadhisthana

sacral-chakra THE SACRAL CHAKRA / Svadhisthana

The Seed of Creation

  • Location: Above the pubic bone and below the navel.
  • Colour: Orange
  • Season: Winter
  • Sense: Taste
  • Element: Water
  • Body parts: reproductive organs, small intestine, immune system and kidneys.

Svadhisthana, also known as the creativity and sexual chakra is deeply connected to the relationship we have with ourselves as well as others. The word svadhisthana can be translated as ‘the dwelling place of the self’. The element of the second chakra is water, which equals cohesiveness and an ability to go with the flow. When change occurs in our lives we can find our sacral chakra either resisting or accepting this flow based on how healthy our sacral chakra is.

You can open this chakra with creative expression and by honouring your body. This creativity can be expressed as procreation but the second chakra energy is certainly not limited to bringing family into this world. When we cook, bake, or garden, we are creating. We create when we find a new solution to an old problem. Any time we take raw materials, physical or mental, and transform them into something new, we are using our creative energy.

The sacral chakra is the home of your sexuality, emotions, and your creativity, guiding you to see beyond the mundane to embrace your dreams and desires. It also governs your ability to initiate, nurture and maintain healthy interpersonal relationships.

The Persona

A balanced second chakra leads to feelings of wellness, abundance, pleasure, and joy. When this chakra is out of balance, a person may experience emotional instability, fear of change, sexual dysfunction, depression, or addictions. The first signs that your sacral chakra is out of balance is a general lack of vitality. You may find yourself struggling with work with a consistent feeling that life is nothing more than a daily grind. Your ability to spontaneously feel joy or to be playful has a way of vanishing when the sacral chakra is weakened, closed or imbalanced as well.

Whereas, people whose sacral chakra is in balance, are normally wonderful to be around. They are open to life and to everything happening around them and they convey an inner joy and radiance that is contagious.
